Be an Eco Entrepreneur

Teaching kids about entrepreneurship helps them develop useful skills that they can use later in life such as  leadership, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork. Often, the focus of entrepreneurship is to build wealth or create a product or service.  Another version includes all of these traditional elements while focusing on cultural, social and/or  environmental issues. Inspiring young minds to use their skills  to make a  positive impact on their communities will build a generation of social entrepreneurial leaders.

I created  a  business simulation for kids that addresses one of our most pressing global pollutants; Fashion & Textile Waste (FTW) . Over the course of 6 weeks, student learned how FTW negatively impacts the environment and together as a team launched an online store that work toward reducing this trend.  Students successfully gained real life business skills and earned a little money while doing something good for the environment and the community they live in.

The business simulation and 9 environmental learning modules were used for 1-1.5 hour sessions with elementary, middle and high school students during summer camp. They are available to be used as individual modules and I have included teacher’s notes and STEM projects to support the lesson plan. This is a great way to educate kids about being an environmental change agent while teaching them to be social entrepreneurs. Perfect for after school programs, camps, rainy day projects, Girl Scout activities and more. Take a look and message me with questions jurucharge@gmail.com.
